SC 357 Organic Chemistry

This course is designed to be an introduction to the basic principles of organic chemistry. It focuses on the structure and chemical reactivity of organic molecules and serves as an introduction to understanding chemical processes in living systems. The course will also solidify mastery of the concepts learned in general chemistry by their application to organic chemistry.

Week 1 – 3                  Unit 1: Structure & Nomenclature (Ch 1-2)

Weeks 4 – 7                Unit 2: Alkenes & Alkynes  (Ch 3-4)

Weeks 8 – 10              Unit 3: Aromatic compounds (Ch 5-6)

Weeks 11 – 14            Unit 4: Halides & Alcohols (Ch 7-8)

Weeks 15 – 17            Unit 5: Carbonyl compounds (Ch 9-10)
